This summer Abbotsford School District again offered a K-8 Summer Enhancement Program called Summer Explorers which ran July 4-21 in 5 school stires around Abbotsford. This program is open to any interested students in Abbotsford and parents can register their children online on the school district website in May. This program aims to provide engaging opportunities for students to practice important literacy and numeracy skills while taking part in activities focused on exploration and inquiry about topics they are interested in.

September can be a month of anxiety and stress for families as it presents the back-to-school season for children. On August 27th, the Abbotsford School District, in partnership with the Abbotsford Food Bank, Hope City Church, The Salvation Army Centre of Hope, and Relate Church, will host the 4th annual back-to-school event to support families in need. This event will provide each child with a backpack of school supplies, hygiene products, a hamper of dry goods, a hamper of perishable items and a $25.00 gift card for Superstore.

In the fall of 2021, Carlos Julian, an Indigenous Support Worker at John Maclure Community School, emailed a local Indigenous artist in hopes that they would be able to paint a mural at the school in honour of their mascot, a Thunderbird. The artist's work captured Carlos' interest online for her colourful, bold and beautiful First Nations-style art.

When Carlos inquired with Chantelle Trainor-Matties, a visual artist from Abbotsford, about creating such a piece, he was intrigued by her response, asking if the school happened to be John Maclure Community School.

Eugene Reimer Middle School's Inclusion Club hosted a Pride celebration for students and staff in June 2022. Students from middle schools across the district were provided with the opportunity to come together with like-minded individuals to socialize and create a community within Abbotsford to celebrate the Pride season.

On June 21, 2022, the Abbotsford Board of Education hosted a House Post Honouring Ceremony at Semá:th First Nation longhouse to formally commemorate the carving of three house posts created for the Abbotsford School District. School Trustees, district staff, students and various community members were in attendance to witness the honouring, a traditional and meaningful ceremony in Stó:lō culture.

Congratulations to our 2022 graduates! We are thrilled to recognize over 1,500 grade 12 students from our secondary schools. From academic excellence to athletic skill-building, artistic achievements to leadership opportunities and community service, the Board of Education has remained committed to providing a world-class, innovative and individualized educational experience for every student.  

On June 22, school trustees, district staff, community members, school staff, and students gathered outside Abbotsford Senior Secondary to unveil a newly painted rainbow crosswalk. This student-led initiative has been in the making for over ten years and was constructed through the Panther Pride Club, the school's Gay-Straight-Alliance (GSA). 

The Abbotsford Board of Education awarded the University of the Fraser Valley’s (UFV) Faculty of Science as the 2022 recipient of the Community Matters Award. Nominated by Jas Piche, an educator with the Abbotsford School District, the University of the Fraser Valley plays an integral role in organizing the Fraser Valley Regional Science Fair (FVRSF) for students, ensuring they have an opportunity to share and celebrate their work in an authentic, real-world environment.

A $239 million-dollar balanced operating budget for the 2022-2023 school year was approved by the Abbotsford Board of Education on June 14, 2022, at their last public Board meeting for the current school year.

As summer break approaches, Minister Jennifer Whitside, Ministry of Education and Child Care, expresses her gratitude to everyone in the education system for their extraordinary efforts and accomplishments during the 2021-2022 school year.
