Assistant Superintendent Lisa Burdeyny provided an update on the progress of Abbotsford middle schools in instructional alignment and student support, equity initiatives, and underscore the need for differentiated, culturally responsive teaching. Middle years learning emphasizes agency, identity, and connection, aligning closely with the Board's Strategic Plan pillars of Student Success, Engaging Opportunities, and Progressive Workforce.
Assistant Superintendent Cunnings provided a report to the Board outlining the work underway within the Secondary Operational Plan. Student Success is a key strategic pillar for the Abbotsford School District, with secondary schools prioritizing literacy achievement and student connection. Cunnings provided information on a partnership with Dr. Hasina Samji and the CHART Lab at SFU to pilot the Social Connection Toolkit, which aims to improve student well-being and academic outcomes as well as a new Robotics program at Robert Bateman Secondary which highlighted the innovative approaches that support student engagement, literacy, and problem-solving skills.
The Board of Education approved having all three readings of the 2025/2026 Amended Annual Budget Bylaw in this one meeting. The Admended Annual Budget Bylaw was read and passed.
